Ethical PR in a High-Pressure Environment
Power Lunch Webinar
Public-sector communicators operate at the intersection of transparency, trust, and accountability, often under intense public, political, and organizational pressure. Now, ethical decision-making is more complex than ever, shaped by rapid news cycles, social media amplification, misinformation, AI tools, and heightened expectations for openness and transparency.
This ethics-focused webinar is grounded in the professional ethics standards associated with the Accredited in Public Relations (APR) credential, the nationally recognized certification that demonstrates a communicator’s commitment to ethical practice, strategic thinking, and public trust. A case study will be examined through the lens of the PRSA Code of Ethics. While accreditation is not required to attend, the ethical principles explored in this session apply to all public-sector communicators, regardless of role or experience level.
The session examines how core ethical principles, such as honesty, accuracy, transparency, and accountability, apply to modern public-sector communications. Participants will gain practical guidance on maintaining ethical integrity in day-to-day communications, serving as a trusted advisor to leadership, and protecting public trust, especially when the right decision is not the easiest one.
What You’ll Learn:
Participants will strengthen their ability to apply ethical standards in public-sector communications by learning how to:
- Apply ethical principles associated with the APR framework, including honesty, accuracy, transparency, and accountability
- Navigate ethical challenges created by political pressure, public scrutiny, and evolving technologies
