CAPIO Launches New Career Support Services for Members
CAPIO is proud to announce a new, no-cost professional development resource designed to help members put their best foot forward in the job market. Through resume reviews and simulated job interview training, members at any stage of their career can receive personalized guidance to strengthen their applications and sharpen their communication skills.
Both services are provided by CAPIO past presidents, who bring years of experience and are eager to share constructive feedback that will help members succeed in their next career move.
Resume Review
A well-crafted resume is often the first step in landing an interview, and CAPIO is here to help ensure yours stands out. Members can submit their resume for review and receive detailed feedback on content and design. For ease of editing, resumes should be submitted in Microsoft Word, either by uploading directly or sharing a public Google Drive link. Including specific concerns or questions will help reviewers tailor their feedback. Once assigned, a reviewer will return comments as quickly as possible and provide contact information for follow-up conversations.
- Please indicate any specific concerns or questions you have about your resume’s content or design.
- Your resume should be in Microsoft Word for ease in editing by your reviewer. Once it has been reviewed, you can then export it to any program you choose.
- Although we can’t promise a specific timeframe for editing your resume, we’ll work as quickly as possible to assign it to a reviewer and complete the review process.
- Your reviewer will provide contact information, and you’re encouraged to follow-up as appropriate.
Simulated Interview Training
An impressive resume is only half the equation — strong interview skills can set you apart from other qualified candidates. CAPIO’s interview training sessions are designed to provide a safe and supportive environment to practice, prepare, and gain confidence.
Members can sign up for a one-hour virtual session (add link here) and are encouraged to set up in a distraction-free, professional setting. Participants should prepare three key messages that clearly highlight why they are the best candidate, and have their resume ready to share with the trainer. Sessions begin with a discussion of career goals and interview concerns, followed by a practice interview. Afterward, the trainer will provide feedback on strengths and areas for growth, along with a rubric evaluating first impressions, communication skills, and content knowledge. Sessions may be recorded for personal use, but all recordings remain confidential.
- Sessions are virtual and we strongly suggest that you participate in a setting that replicates an actual interview (no distractions, neutral background, good audio and video).
- You’ll be requested to develop three key messages that clearly and concisely demonstrate why you’re the best candidate for the position. Consistently delivering these messages is perhaps the most important aspect of your interview, as they can succinctly demonstrate to your interviewer that you are the best candidate among others who may have similar experience, skills, education, and certifications.
- You’ll be requested to have a resume available to share with your trainer.
- We encourage you to record your session on your personal device for future reference; CAPIO does not retain copies of the interviews. The sessions are confidential, which provides a safe space for the training.
- Sessions typically will begin with a discussion of your professional goals and communications/interview concerns, along with a review of your key messages. The interview then follows, and upon completion you’ll have a discussion with your trainer focused on strengths and areas that require strengthening.
- Your trainer will provide contact information, and you’re encouraged to follow-up as appropriate.
- Following the session, you’ll receive a rubric that covers three areas – first impressions, communications skills, and content knowledge – plus additional trainer comments.
