David Vossbrink has served local government public communications for a half century, including roles as director of communications for the City of San José, San José Mayor Ron Gonzales, Mineta San José International Airport, City of Sunnyvale, and East Bay Municipal Utility District.

Although retired from the City of San José, he continues to provide communications consulting and training services for public agencies, community organizations, and universities.

Throughout his career, Vossbrink managed strategic and crisis communications, media relations, , public policy development, and community relations to earn and sustain public trust that is essential for effective and responsive government. For the past ten years he also has served as an advisor to the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University.

He began his career in public service as a VISTA community organizer working to improve living conditions for residents of poverty neighborhoods in South Florida, where he discovered the powerful impact that local governments have on quality of life and their public accessibility that can lead to positive change. 

Vossbrink is a life member of the California Association of Public Information Officials, and he received CAPIO’s Paul B. Clark Award in 2002 in recognition of his career contributions to the public-sector communications profession. He is accredited in public relations by PRSA and was inducted to the PRSA College of Fellows in 2023. He has served as president and a long-term board member for the Silicon Valley chapter of PRSA, and he was presented with the chapter’s inaugural Legacy Award in 2019.
