Cities throughout the State of California must now require residents to make changes to long-standing habits around how they dispose of food scraps and other types of organic waste.

The first webinar, “Communicating on Kitchen Scraps”, will be held on Thursday, January 19 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. 

As agencies across the state encourage residents to recycle kitchen scraps, a stream of questions typically emerge: “Do I have to use a kitchen pail?” “Can I use a compostable bag?” “How can I prevent smells, messes and pests?” Join this session to learn from the Costa Mesa Sanitary District (CMSD) and its partners Michael Balliet Consulting, Inc. and Tripepi Smith on how to run an Organics Recycling Program.

Jennifer Nentwig is a talented, well-rounded communications professional and project manager with more than 13 years of experience serving government organizations. She has built and implemented programs in strategic communications, media relations, internal communication, community relations and social media. Her skills include website and social media management, development of content including articles, speeches, talking points and FAQs, as well as event planning and implementation.

Michael Balliet brings extensive solid waste industry experience to his consulting and auditing services for local governments. His primary field of expertise is in solid waste franchising, waste hauler management, agreement compliance audits, financial audits and rate setting analysis, as well as his in-depth understanding of the regulations governing solid waste collection, diversion and disposal and how local jurisdictions can effectively meet State legislative requirements. He has been an environmental consultant based in California since 1991.

Nabila Guzman oversees the solid waste contract, programs, services and special projects at CMSD. Prior to this role, Nabila has worked for the cities of Santa Ana, Huntington Beach and Stanton. Nabila is an active member of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), Southern California Waste Management Forum and California Resource Recover Association (CRRA).
