East Coast meets West Coast at CAPIO 2023
Former U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and FBI's Cathy Milhoan to speak in Monterey

News

This just in!  CAPIO is pleased to announce our two keynote speakers for the CAPIO Annual Conference: the FBI’s Cathy L. Milhoan and former U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta.

Our opening keynote speaker on Tuesday hails from Washington, D.C. and is the Assistant Director in the Office of Public Affairs for the FBI, Cathy L. Milhoan.  Milhoan was named assistant director of the FBI’s Office of Public Affairs in August 2021. She had most recently served as the Director of Communications for the U.S. Secret Service since 2016, running the agency’s public affairs program.

Ms. Milhoan had previously worked at the FBI for more than five years beginning in 2004, including as a national spokesperson. She also designed and led the FBI’s Media Training for Executives program and has trained international law enforcement executives in media and crisis communications.

On Wednesday we will open the day by hearing from Secretary Leon Panetta, former U.S. Secretary of Defense who spent a lifetime in public service and served most recently under President Obama as both Director of the CIA and then Secretary of Defense.

Mr. Panetta and his wife Sylvia are co-founders of the Panetta Institute for Public Policy in Monterey which serves the California State University system by providing study opportunities in government, politics and public policy to encourage future leaders and public servants.

In addition to being inspired by these two national figures, CAPIO 2023 features 38 breakout sessions, tours, networking opportunities and more.  Our theme – CAPIO 360 – Looking out | Looking in highlights communicators’ unique ability to keep pushing forward while learning from the past.  You need a range of skills for your job and the CAPIO network will help you advance your knowledge about ways to continue to support your community and stakeholders.
