California’s Premier Government Communications Association Names 2017 – 2019 Board

Sacramento, Calif., – The California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO), the state’s premier government communications association, named its 2017 – 2019 Board of Directors.

“I look forward to serving our government communicators throughout the state and will continue to focus on growing CAPIO’s membership along with education and development programs during my term as president,” noted Christine Brainerd, APR and City of Folsom’s communications manager. “Our board has a lot of great programs,  projects and partnerships we are working on this next year and are excited to continue to roll-out these resources to our members.”

CAPIO has staggered two-year board elections. The 2017 – 2019 Board of Directors were voted on by CAPIO members throughout the state and represent the organization’s diverse membership, including board members from state organizations, special districts, school districts, cities and counties.

The 2017 – 19 CAPIO Board of Directors include: 

  • CAPIO President – Christine Brainerd, APR and City of Folsom, communications manager
  • CAPIO President-elect – Amy Williams, City of Sacramento, support services manager
  • CAPIO Past President – C.L. Lopez, County of San Bernardino Human Services, communications officer
  • Vice-President – Awards – Sarah Macdonald, City of San Marcos, communications officer
  • Communications Chair – Kaylee Weatherly, Long Beach Water, public information officer
  • Website Chair – Nicole Coleman, Sacramento Area Sewer District, communications and media officer (2017-18 only)
  • Membership Chair – Northern California – Jacqui Diaz, City of San Leandro, project manager
  • Northern California Director-at-Large – Elizabeth Emmett, Napa Valley Unified School District, director of communications and community engagement
  • Central California Director-at-Large – Bill Nash, County of Ventura – Executive Office, public information officer

The 2017-19 board members will join the 2016 – 18 board members:

  • Treasurer – Krista Noonan, CalSTRS director of communications
  • Vice-President – Conference – Kristeen Farlow, Cucamonga Valley Water District, communications and outreach manager
  • Education and Development Chair – Rachel A. McGuire, APR, Western Municipal Water District, communications manager
  • Social Media Chair – Maurice Chaney, City of Roseville – Environmental Utilities, public information officer
  • Membership Chair – Southern California – Kathie Martin, Town of Apple Valley, Director of Communications
  • Southern California Director-at-Large – Jose Arballo, Jr., Riverside County Department of Public Health, senior public information specialist
