Research Study Invitation: Sharing Experiences from the 2025 Los Angeles Wildfires
Public information officers and journalists play a critical role during times of crisis—often working under intense pressure while witnessing firsthand the emotional toll of disasters on communities and themselves. To better understand these experiences, California State University, Long Beach is conducting an academic research study focused on the emotional impacts of covering the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires.
Dr. Worapron Chanthapan, Assistant Professor of Public Relations at CSU Long Beach, along with a research colleague, is examining the emotional experiences of public information officers and journalists who worked during the wildfires. The goal of the study is to better understand how media professionals navigate occupational trauma and identify coping mechanisms that help foster resilience in high-stress, crisis-driven environments.
Media professionals who were involved in wildfire coverage are invited to participate in a brief online survey to share their experiences. Participation will help contribute valuable insights that can inform future support, training, and wellness resources for communicators working on the front lines of emergencies.
