Government communicators day puts the spotlight where it belongs
Mark your Calendar - February 20, 2026
If you work in government communications, you know the moment: one more edit, one more approval, one more “can we make this clearer?” pass, usually with coffee that went cold an hour ago. That is just part of the job, and honestly, most days, it is a job we love. It is also a job measured in drafts. Lots of drafts. Sometimes labeled final, final-final, and final-for-real.
On February 20, 2026, Government Communicators Day marks its fourth year of celebrating the professionals like you who help government make sense. Led by CAPIO, supported by 3CMA, and echoed by government communicators nationwide, the day recognizes the work that keeps communities informed, engaged, and connected to their local government.
Government communicators are there when things get real. We explain rate increases without a single pie chart emoji. We shine a light on awards and accomplishments so the people doing the work get the credit. We manage media calls and crises with calm, clarity, and a whole lot of behind-the-scenes strategy. And we build communication plans that inform, educate, and engage, even when the topic is not exactly dinner table conversation.
“Public communication is not just about sharing information. It’s about building understanding and trust,” said Maurice Chaney, Northern California Membership and Regional Chair. “Our members help communities navigate change, make informed decisions, and stay engaged with the work of local government.”
Government Communicators Day gives us a moment of recognition, but the truth is we keep showing up the other 364 days, too. Because we believe in the work, we care about the communities we serve, and despite the redlines, revisions, and late nights, we genuinely love what we do.
Celebrate with us!
