Sarah Macdonald

As Communications Officer for the City of San Marcos, Sarah Macdonald is responsible for the city’s comprehensive communications program including external and internal communications, public outreach and engagement, strategic planning and information sharing with more than 90,000 residents about city-related programs, projects and services. The award-winning San Marcos Communications Office also oversees web design and web content, social media, media relations, special events and creating and maintaining a clear identity for San Marcos while providing graphic design and video production services. 

Another key role of the department is crisis communications and the sharing of timely disaster information through the city’s website, social media portals, radio station and other tools. Macdonald served as the lead public information officer in the city’s Emergency Operations Center during the May 2014 fires and is quickly building a reputation for effectively leading emergency communications efforts.

Prior to joining the City of San Marcos in June 2012, Macdonald worked for Yolo County Probation as a project manager supporting outreach for public safety realignment. She has a BA in political science from University California at Santa Barbara, a Masters in Public Policy and Administration from Sacramento State University and has experience working in every level of government.
