our history
CAPIO was founded in 1971 by a group of ten public information practitioners in Orange and Los Angeles counties. Today, more than 200 members strong, CAPIO owes much to the vision of its founders, who recognized the value of well-trained and professional communicators in serving the public's interest, and realized the importance of providing continuing professional growth opportunities and support for both veteran and new practitioners.
Capio History Project
Do you know how CAPIO came to be? What its founders hoped to achieve by forming this association of public information officials? How it's grown and what has changed — both organizationally and in the profession — over the years? How, 30 years after CAPIO's founding, it has been sustained through these changes and remained a vibrant and effective voice for communications professionals throughout California? You'll find the answers to these questions and more in the CAPIO History Project Newsletter.
